How Butler Palace Lucknow Became Victim of time?, The Butler Palace, constructed in 1915 for the Deputy Commissioner of Avadh, Sir Spencer Harcourt Butler, gave its name to the reclining residential colony situated inside it.
History Of Butler Palace : The palace was designed to consist of three buildings, but due to Gomti floods in 1921, only one of them was completed. The four-faceted palace features stunning architecture and is the only monument in Lucknow to be built in this manner.

After serving as the official residence of the Deputy Commissioner, the palace became a guest house for politicians post-independence. Later, it was declared “enemy property” by the Indian government in 1965 after the Indo-Pak war and was handed over to the Ministry of Commerce. It was subsequently used as a Sales Tax Office by the Uttar Pradesh government until it was taken over by the Indian Council of Philosophical Research (ICPR) in 1981.
The ICPR was later asked to vacate the premises following a Supreme Court ruling. Throughout its history, Butler Palace has served as a library with over 32,000 literature pieces, a guest house, a well-equipped seminar room, a exhibition hall and an office.
Is Butler Palace Hunted ?
At the entrance gate of this palace, surrounded by dense trees on all sides, it is written that strict action will be taken upon entering. People say that the dense forests were cut down to build it, and the souls of those forests were absorbed into this Butler Palace. Some people also claim to have frequently seen a woman in a white sari here.

Despite several people warning us not to enter as those who go in don’t come back out safe and sound, our team went inside anyway. Contrary to the rumors of a haunted house, we found a decrepit mansion inside, filled with bottles of alcohol and obscene graffiti on the walls. It seemed as though people had intentionally tarnished its reputation as a haunted house, and instead, it had become a den for drug addicts.
